G’day and welcome to The Pilot Academy! I decided to create this website in late 2018 as a resource for my students, and in order to share some of the lessons I’ve learned during my time in aviation. Generally, these articles will be about the topics that I think are important for my students to learn; but if there’s something in particular you’d like me to cover or explain in more depth then send me a message and I’ll see what I can do.

I’ll do my best to post a new article or two every month. If you find them useful don’t forget to sign up the article mailing list so you don’t miss any new ones!

Note: this website is free to use for all people and will remain so, I don’t intend to ever charge you for anything. I may add some unobtrusive advertising one day though to help pay for website maintenance.

Who am I?

I’m an Aussie pilot living in the US and, probably like a lot of you, aviation is something I’ve been passionate about since I was a child, which is kind of weird though since I spent most of my childhood growing up in a small mining town in the Australian outback. Wherever my love for aviation came from, I’m glad I got it.

So far, my aviation journey has lead me to get a bachelor’s degree in mechanical and aerospace engineering, spend a few years flying aeroplanes in the Royal Australian Air Force, and then afterwards move to the US to get my helicopter certificates. I’ve even been lucky enough to log a few hours in gliders and hot air balloons. Basically: if it flies, then I want to fly it!

I’m not sure where my journey will take me in the end, maybe I’ll end up flying for the airlines, maybe I’ll fly helicopter medevac, or maybe I’ll keep teaching people to fly. Whatever happens, I get to do what I love so I’m sure I’ll enjoy it. I hope you enjoy your aviation journey too!
